International Promotion to Glory - Scott

Word has been received from the USA Eastern Territory regarding the Promotion to Glory of Commissioner Albert P. Scott on 16 February 2017.

Born into the family of Brigadier and Mrs. James G. Scott on 15 October, 1918 and growing up in The Salvation Army, Albert was commissioned as an officer in 1941. He held appointments as Corps Officer, Financial and Divisional Secretary and Executive Director of the then Booth Memorial Centre, before appointments as Territorial Secretary for Business Administration and Chief Secretary, all in the USA Eastern Territory.

Many of the above appointments were shared with his wife, Dorothy Ditmer, until she was Promoted to Glory following a long struggle with cancer. Their two children, Lois and Donald, survive him.

In 1971, Commissioner Scott married Major Frances Clark and they served together at Booth Medical Centre, in leadership appointments at Territorial Headquarters in New York and as International Secretary for the Americas at International Headquarters. During this time, the commissioner served for two years as Chairman of the then Advisory Council to the General.

Since his retirement on 1 April 1985, Commissioner Scott has been an active participant in Clearwater Corps activities, including seven years as Men's Fellowship President and a ministry in League of Mercy and the Shepherding Programmes, which he shared with Mrs. Commissioner Scott. During this time, he became the first Corps Business Secretary and was Chairman of the Building Committee when the present Citadel was erected.

With advanced age, activity lessened; but within physical limitations, he was a faithful Salvationist until God called him Home on 16 February, 2017.

Many who have known him through the years will remember his ministry as a bandmaster before officership, and, in his early divisional appointments, his extra-mile efforts to guide young officers during their developing years. We join with others who thank God for Commissioner Scott’s faithful service and influence, and give thanks for the truth of this promise:‘To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with My Father on His throne’(Revelation 3:21).

We continue to pray God's comfort upon Commissioner Scott's family – his wife, Mrs. Commissioner Frances Scott; daughter, Lois (Brian) Bowen of Sarasota, FL and son, Donald (Janelle) Scott of Las Cruces, NM. We also remember his three granddaughters.

Messages of condolence for the family may be sent to: Mrs. Commissioner Frances Scott, Coral Oaks, 900 West Lake Road, Unit C 307, Palm Harbor, FL 34684.

Monetary donations may be made to The Salvation Army Haiti Project, in care of Colonel Mark Tillsley, The Salvation Army Territorial Headquarters, Post Office Box 378, Kingston 10, Jamaica, WI.

Willis Howell
Colonel
CHIEF SECRETARY
